Designed by Jim Terrian and built by Todd Glowka, spaces inside the home include specialty rooms for arts and crafts and an in-home exercise studio, designed to support a lifestyle oriented around comfort, creativity and health.
Texas Roots
Externally, native Texas limestone is blended with light hand-trowel stucco, creating texture and depth that responds to sunlight and weather.
A five-color blend concrete tile roof reinforces this regional rootedness. Wood-framed windows and linear fireplaces carry through the material narrative, avoiding ornament while deepening the sense of craft.
Internally, the spaces are open and light-filled. Specialty wall finishes and the consistent use of wood-framed windows create warmth throughout.
Character Grade European Oak
Within this curated interior, WoodCo's custom engineered Brett Plank in Character Grade European Oak runs through several main rooms, including the living and kitchen areas.
This specification called for hand-beveled edges, custom texture, UV oil finish, and random-length boards from 2 to 9 feet, milled to precise dimensions.
Character Grade European Oak is specified for the variation it displays – mixed grain patterns, color shifts, knots, and natural markings across each board. The UV oil finish preserves these characteristics as the wood ages and develops patina.
The wood flooring is present throughout the home’s high-traffic areas – from the entrance hall, to entertaining spaces, the kitchen and the gym. These functional spaces need to withstand real daily use.
On a Character Grade engineered floor, scuffs, footprints, and wear integrate into the wood's visible grain and variation, rather than appearing as damage. The matte finish also doesn't require constant maintenance.
The 4mm wear layer and 5/8-inch overall depth also supports longevity across generations of use, while the specification maintains the visual warmth required for the interior's traditional language.
Details That Align
The hand-beveled edges and custom texture create articulation at the plank edge. Random-length boards from 2 to 9 feet generate visual rhythm across open spaces. The finish choice honors the wood's character.
