Set within the rugged landscape of southern Texas, this modern residence is shaped by structure, proportion, and material precision. Concrete and steel define the architectural framework, but it’s the wide-plank oak flooring that gives the interior its sense of balance and continuity.

Designed by San Antonio-based luxury residential studio, Dy Lynne Décor, this upscale home brings together clean geometry and a grounded material palette to form a calm, expansive interior.

Wide boards and long sightlines

Throughout the home, Kirby Plank oak flooring runs in wide, long boards that stretch wall to wall with minimal breaks. The planks are engineered for stability, offering a clean profile that suits large-scale, open-plan layouts. In spaces where the architecture opens up, the flooring helps connect one area to the next, carrying the eye and easing transitions.

This is especially clear in the main living area. The oak flooring lays down a consistent tone underfoot, while above, structural steel columns, expansive glazing, and a cast-in-place concrete fireplace define the space. The natural texture of the wood adds warmth and variation, grounding the harder materials without drawing focus away from them.

The fireplace is a strong vertical form in cast concrete, rising from a wide hearth and detailed with clean formwork lines. Its weight is offset by the tone and texture of the floor, and by the timber ceiling beams that echo its proportions. Overhead, an oversized circular chandelier adds structure to the space. Its design nods to both sculptural and industrial forms, but sits easily within the room.

In the entryway, the materials – oak, steel, glass – meet with precision. The long boards continue here without visual interruption, reinforcing the scale of the architecture and giving clarity to how the space is navigated.

Pattern, tone, and light

In the kitchen and bar area, the use of material becomes more layered. The same Kirby Plank oak is laid in a herringbone pattern – an intentional shift that distinguishes the space and adds detail underfoot.

The flooring sits beneath dark cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and a chevron-patterned metal tile backsplash. Timber shelving adds another natural element, set against the polished surface of the wall behind.

Here, the oak introduces warmth and variation. Against the cooler tones of steel and the sharp geometry of the tile, the wood creates a visual pause that keeps the composition from feeling hard or overworked. It holds the space together without flattening it.

A custom light fixture above the island adds sculptural weight and scale. Throughout, the material palette defines the experience of the home, and the oak flooring plays a central role, grounding the design and maintaining continuity as the rooms shift in function and tone.

Designed for living

Engineered for durability and dimensional stability, Kirby Plank performs confidently in the Texas climate, where high temperatures and humidity shifts can challenge traditional hardwood. Its construction makes it ideal for high-traffic spaces and indoor-outdoor transitions.

Kirby Plank is an engineered oak product made to perform in demanding residential settings. It’s built to span large spaces, stand up to daily use, and respond well to the temperature shifts and humidity that come with the Texas climate.

Getting the details right

Bringing a project like this together takes alignment across every detail. We supported Dy Lynne Décor and the wider team with tailored samples to review finishes, helping ensure the flooring felt right across different light conditions and spaces. Naturally, we worked closely to coordinate deliveries with the build schedule and remained on hand through installation to make sure the product landed exactly as intended.

If you’re working on a custom home and looking for wood flooring that’s architectural in tone and tailored to your project, we’re here to support you exploring what’s possible.
