WoodCo is excited to announce we are certified by SCS to FSC® Standards.  This certification may have some who are not completely familiar with this term asking what is FSC certification? And that is okay. I am here to inform you a little bit more about our FSC certification and what it can mean to you and your next project.

First and foremost, what is FSC®? FSC® stands for ‘Forest Stewardship Council’. It is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible forestry. FSC® certifies forests all over the world to ensure they meet the highest environmental and social standards. When you purchase a product with an FSC logo, you can be confident that buying it won’t harm the world’s forests.

Why use FSC® certified wood?

For one, if you want to know exactly where your product is coming from, from the start of the tree all the way to your home, then I would recommend getting an FSC certified product.

Maybe you are working on a project needing to comply with your city green building codes. An FSC-certified wood was found to be the most specified green-building product in McGraw-Hill’s database of 60,000 project specifications collected annually, surpassing even EnergyStar.

The carbon benefits are great. With every cubic meter of wood used as a substitute for other materials it displaces an average of 1.1 tons of CO₂. You can save a total of 2 tons of CO₂ if you were to buy an FSC certified wood.

Did you know that wood has the lowest embodied energy of mainstream building material? In fact, producing steel requires 24 times the energy needed to produce wood.

Wood is also five times better than concrete, ten times better than brick and 250 times better than steel for thermal insulation.

When you buy an FSC certified wood, you can be assured your products are not only renewable, but they come from forests managed responsibly.

Lastly, wood is the most natural and beautiful looking element you can add to any project. It is versatile and durable and gives any project an added feeling of warmth.
