NORFOLK, Va., December 8, 2006 - A landmark Starbucks store opened today at the Naval Station Norfolk, Va., Navy Exchange. This opening, made possible by an agreement between Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM); Commander, Navy Installations Morale, Welfare and Recreation (CNI/MWR) and Sodexho (NYSE: SDX), marks the first-ever Starbucks location on a Navy installation.
“Our mission is to provide quality goods and services at a savings and to support quality of life programs,” said NEXCOM's Commander Rear Adm. Bob Cowley. “Our partnership with Starbucks and Sodexho will allow Navy Exchanges to bring sailors Starbucks' world-class products with Sodexho's world-class service and support MWR quality of life programs.”
Greg Verone, president of Sodexho's Government Services Division said, “Delivering high quality brands is a hallmark of Sodexho. Combining Starbucks, CNI/MWR and Sodexho is a powerful way to deliver great service to our customers at the Navy Exchange. We look forward to operating the Starbucks here, as a way to improve the quality of daily life for them.”
Through a licensing agreement, Sodexho operates several Starbucks stores in the U.S. at colleges and universities, corporations and health care facilities, as well as a location at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif.
Sodexho anticipates opening additional Starbucks locations including Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Va.; Naval Submarine Base Bangor, Wash.; Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla.; and Naval Station San Diego, Calif.
